Christmas Storybook Land

Last Christmas, I heard about Christmas Storybook Land in Albany, but we never made it down there.  It's been going for more than 35 years and is completely free.  The group that puts it on wants to make sure there's something free and non-commercial at Christmas for families to enjoy.  It runs for two weeks...all day on weekends and for two hours on week nights.

This year I was determined to make it.  We went the night before it was over, thinking it wouldn't be crowded.  WRONG.  We had to wait in a huge line to get in, but it was totally worth it.  It's held in a livestock barn at the fairgrounds, hence the amount of clothes the kids were wearing.

It was much neater than I'd anticipated.  There were TONS of scenes...just about every fairy tale, popular kids' movie, and nursery rhyme you can think of.  Plus three huge tables with multiple trains running on them (Judson's favorite), a big area with teddy bears doing all sorts of winter activities, a large area of big dollhouses (Cooper's favorite), and Santa at the end (which we didn't have to wait in line for, since Judson is terrified of Santa and is teaching Cooper to be the same.  Ugh.).  Anyway, the coolest part is that we had recently gotten a box of 23 fairy tales at Costco, so Judson could identify almost every scene.  I think that made it even more fun for him.

We will definitely be making this a tradition!

He would only stand by these since they were "statues" and not costumed individuals.  :)
